A couple in the Midwest is raising the bar on seafood dining in the city of New York with a seafood restaurant in downtown Manhattan.
The restaurant, the only seafood restaurant of its kind in New York, is called The Sea Grill, and it will be open every day until December 15th, when it will close.
“The Sea Grill is a true seafood restaurant,” said Michael Sohn, co-owner of the restaurant.
“It has the best seafood in town.”
Sohn, who has worked in New Orleans for the past 25 years, said he and his wife, Heather, wanted to make the restaurant an institution in the New York City seafood industry, and he thought he could help with that.
“We were inspired by the New Orleans oyster boom and the success of the Oysterman,” he said.
“We thought, why not try to make our own seafood, make our food that people can come back to over and over again.”
The Sea Tavern, located at 642 Third Ave., will be located in the West Village, a neighborhood that has become known for its seafood restaurants.
The location, which has two floors of dining space, will be available to rent on a first-come, first-served basis, and Sohn said he plans to keep the prices low.
“They are trying to be a seafood place,” he told Fortune.
“There is nothing more fun to eat out on the weekends.”
Somm said he is hoping to open a restaurant at a hotel in Manhattan that will serve the seafood as well as a seafood-centric restaurant in a new location.
“There’s a lot of things to do,” he added.
“I’m going to be open from 4 to 9 p.m. every day.
I want to give people a place to come and hang out.”
