A new BH Foods-owned seafood business has been launched in Tasmania.BHP Billingham is launching a new seafood company in Tasmania and the company is expected to employ more than 200 people.
It is the first Tasmanian company to launch a food business since the establishment of a Tasmanian government-owned company, the Government’s Fish and Wildlife Development Agency, in 2007.
Mr O’Brien said the new Bih Foods Tasmania was a Tasmanians first foray into the seafood industry.
“It’s a Tasmania-first venture,” he said.
“We are excited to be in Tasmania.”
Mr O”Brien said while Tasmania’s current fishery was under threat, the Tasmanian Government was investing in new fish farming.
“This is a huge opportunity for Tasmania,” he told the ABC.
“The Tasmanian population has declined by 50 per cent in the last 30 years.”
And it’s been a big reason why Tasmania has been at such a low point in terms of fishery and biodiversity.”BHP has previously been involved in developing new seafood products in the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.
Mr Ting said Tasmania was the first region in Australia to be set up under the Government of Tasmania, a Tasman-based body.”
Our focus is to build an industry that is sustainable,” he explained.”
That is what we are looking for.
“There’s not much left for the Tasmanians, so Tasmania has always been the place where the future of Tasmania lies.”
Bh Foods Tasmania is set to open in Hobart’s Southport on November 1, 2020.
