Tom was founded in 1982 by Tom Clements and Peter J. Deere.

Tom said the rise of Tom’s has been driven by an increased demand for fresh seafood, especially as the industry has undergone rapid growth.
“We’re very fortunate that the global market for seafood is growing at an unprecedented rate,” Tom said in a statement.
“This is thanks to the new technologies in processing and processing technology that are allowing us to compete at the highest level.”
Tom’s growth has also come at a cost.
Tom was recently accused of “overcharging” for shrimp products, including overcharges of $15 per pound, for customers in the West Coast.
Tom denied the charges and said it was “unfair to the consumer” to blame him.
Tom Seafood, which is based in California, was purchased by Clements in 2014 for $1.2 million.
The acquisition was approved by the company’s board of directors.
